| This Sunflower was painted using a variety of watercolour paint on Whatman 140 lb Watercolour paper. The subject was draw from life before a light sketch onto the paper, the background wash was completed first giving the impression of 'out of focus' flowers and leaves behind the subject. These colours were dropped in whilst the paper was wet. Colour was applied to the leaves and then the flower head, working from light to dark and detailed. A drawing of the same Sunflower after it had 'gone to seed' can be found in the Pencil Gallery. |
